Shubman Gill in the second over of the match but Abhishek Sharma looked relentless against bowlers and brought his fifth T20I fifty in just 22 balls. Skipper Suryakumar Yadav’s bat remained silent as he departed after scoring only 12 off 13. Abhishek fell against Asalanka in the ninth over after amassing 61 off 31. His valiant innings included 10 boundaries (eight fours and two maximums).
After Abhishek’s dismissal, Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson took Sri Lanka’s bowling attack to the cleaners and stitched a 66-run stand for the fourth wicket off just 41 balls. Samson became the victim of Dasun Shanaka after chipping in with his 39 off 23. Hardik Pandya couldn’t do much with his bat as he lost his wicket after amassing two runs off three balls. Axar Patel played a couple of big strokes and went back to the dugout with his unbeaten 21 off 15. Tilak Varma also looked confident and notched up 49* run from 34 balls. Eventually, Indiaerected a total of 202/5 in their 20 overs.

Chasing the huge target, Sri Lanka lost Kusal Mendis in the first over as Hardik Pandya sent him back to the pavilion on a duck. However, Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera stepped up in pressure and built a superb 127-run partnership off 70 balls for the second wicket. Perera lost his wicket after scoring 58 off 32 but Nissanka stood in the middle and went on to notch up his maiden T20I ton.
Following Perera's departure, Sri Lanka lost wickets in regular intervals and after 40 overs of the match, the scores of the two teams were level. Nissanka also failed to hold his nerves in the last over of the contest and lost his wicket against Harshit Rana after accumulating 107 off 58.
In the Super Over, Arshdeep Singh was given the task to bowl the over for India and he bowled exceptionally and contained Sri Lanka to just two runs in five balls. The speedster dismissed Kusal Perera and Dasun Shanaka. Chasing three runs, India captain Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill went into the middle and the former chased down the target on the first delivery.
