The Indian cricket team is currently taking on Australia in a three-match ODI series. Coming into the series after lifting the Asia Cup 2025 and clean sweeping West Indies in two-match Test series at home,
the Men in Blue were handed a seven-wicket drubbing at the hands of world champions in the series opener on Sunday, October 19 in Perth.
With the highly-anticipated return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli after almost seven months, the biggest question which has been in talks is whether they will feature in the 2027 World Cup, which is set to be played in over two years’ time. However, their future remains under cloud so far, former Indian cricketer and head coach Ravi Shastri dropped a big statement on all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja’s future in Indian cricket.
Do not discount or write off Ravindra Jadeja. He will be in the mix for 2027 WC: Shastri
Speaking on the ICC Review, the former Indian cricketer turned commentator backed veteran all-rounder for the 2027 CWC. Jadeja, who retired from T20I after India’s T20 World Cup 2024 triumph, continues to play Test and ODI cricket. However, his omission from India’s ODI squad for Australia series, left several questioning. "2027 everyone talks. Do not discount or write off Ravindra Jadeja. He will be in the mix, there is no question about that. He's still fielding like he is 7-8 years younger than what he is. It is just a privilege to watch him chase a ball on the field," Ravi Shastri said.
Further highlighting n his omission from the ongoing ODI series against Australia, the former Indian cricketer said, "I can understand (why he was not selected) in Australia because there is Axar, and there are only 3 matches, but come South Africa, where you have to play in different venues against different teams, both of them might play."
India’s ODI squad for Australia series:
