Depending on who you are, whether a die hard fan of Indian cricket or generally, a fan of the sport, there haven’t really been too many pieces of good news associated with Indian Cricket, especially where
it comes to the action in the recent past. For a team that’s been a T20 World Cup champion and that too, this very year in clinching the the prized or coveted title, the struggles that have been evident with regard to the kind of cricket India have played in the United Kingdom so far have been rather strange and perhaps even punishing for avid fans.
While it would be unfair to say that the nature of defeats that India sustained at the hands of Ireland would be baffling because they were close games that didn’t go the visitors’ way, that not many would have expected India to lose to Ireland is what made that series defeat puzzling. And then came the 2 T20Is lost to the Harry Brook led England side.

So it’s been very displeasing a sight to see India struggle. Against that narrative the very news that two of India’s foremost batters have topped the ICC rankings in T20I cricket serves some exciting fun and am element of positivity that is a welcome breath of change. Or like a welcoming breath of fresh air against a morose environment that’s blanketed the fabric of Indian Cricket.
Yes, you read that right.
Two, not one, Indian batters have managed to top the ICC rankings go leading batters in the game’s shortest format, thereby occupying the 1st and 2nd spot.
On this eminent list, Ishan Kishan, who has been in blazing form ever since the last 12-14 months or so and been a constant positive factor for the team even in the T20 World Cup that was held earlier this year is on rank #1 with 897 points, followed by Abhishek Sharma on 881 points.
But just the fact that 2 leading Indian batters are present on a list of XI players is indeed brilliant and something that’s worth celebrating. Some of the other notable talents on this list happen to be- Phil Salt, Jos Buttler and Dewald Brevis.
Having said that what’s also something inspiring and of significant note is that a certain Tilak Varma is also on the top 10 list positioning himself on the 6th rank, which is in fact even higher than a legend of the game in the form of Jos Buttler.
