John Cena, the record-setting 17-time WWE Champion, is currently in the midst of his farewell tour in the year 2025, and he has already created a lot of epic moments in the better part of the first eight
months of it. At the start of this month, John Cena lost the WWE Championship in a hellacious street fight against Cody Rhodes in the main event of night two of the first-ever two night SummerSlam Premium Live Event (PLE) at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
After portraying the heel persona for more than five months, John Cena came back to his senses after being left high and dry by The Rock and Travis Scott on the farewell tour. The Leader of Cenation turned face and put together one of the best matches of his entire 23-year WWE career at SummerSlam against Cody Rhodes, for which Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter gave him five stars.
I’ve been doing this for 23 years, and I’ve never once chosen my opponent: John Cena
With the active WWE in-ring career of John Cena set to come to its conclusion in December 2025, there has been a lot of speculation around who his final opponent is going to be. When John Cena was asked in an interview by the Boston Herald about who his opponent is going to be for the retirement match, he reiterated the sentiment about never choosing an opponent in WWE despite putting together a Hall of Fame worthy career.
He was quoted as saying, “I’ve been doing this for 23 years, and I’ve never once chosen my opponent, I’ve always lived by the philosophy that life will give you opportunities every single day.” John Cena also revealed that he is looking forward to someone challenging him for the retirement match scheduled to take place in December this year.
“And you have to do the best you can every single day with what life gives you. So whoever challenges me for that last match, I’m going to give it my best shot,” remarked the 48-year-old.
