Kevin de Bruyne, the Belgium and Napoli midfielder, has been ruled out of action for an indefinite period after scans confirmed that he suffered a high-grade tear in his right thigh while converting a penalty
for the club in Serie A. At the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, the 33-year-old scored the opening goal in a 3-1 win over Inter Milan but just as the ball went into the back of the net in the 33rd minute, he grabbed his right thigh in agony before being taken off the field.
Notably, after joining Napoli from Manchester City on a free transfer in the summer, Kevin de Bruyne scored four goals in eight matches in Serie A apart from going goalless in three UEFA Champions League (UCL) appearances. The statement from Napoli about his thigh injury stated that he “underwent diagnostic tests at Pineta Grande Hospital, which revealed a high-grade lesion to the biceps femoris muscle in his right thigh.”
Scott McTominay and Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa also scored for Napoli apart from Kevin de Bruyne
The Italian giants have also stated that Kevin de Bruyne has begun the rehabilitation process but no timeline has been given about his return to the side. In his absence, Napoli managed to keep their wits about themselves with Scott McTominay and Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa scoring second half goals against Inter Milan in the Serie A clash while the visitors got their only goal of the night via a penalty conversion from Hakan Calhanoglu.
Following the conclusion of the Serie A clash, Daniele Adani blasted Inter Milan for not taking the opportunity to beat a severely depleted Napoli side away from home. He was quoted as saying, as per Domenica Sportiva via FCInterNews, “Napoli played without their best defender, Amir Rrahmani, their best midfielder, Stanislav Lobotka, their best striker, Romelu Lukaku, and his substitute, Rasmus Hojlund. During the match, their best player, Kevin De Bruyne, got injured.”
“All this against a team that, for nine out of eleven players, played in the Champions League final five months ago, missing only Marcus Thuram, who isn’t their best striker, and with Manuel Akanji replacing Benjamin Pavard,” he added.
