Star Indian athlete and two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra was among the first few athletes to earn a qualification for the Diamond League Final, set to be held later this month in Zurich. The former
Diamond League winner, who won the 2022 edition of the prestigious event, will be taking the centre-stage in the ultimate showdown, set to be held on August 28 in Zurich, Switzerland.
Marking his fourth straight appearance in the event after lifting the title in 2022 and finishing as runner-up in 2023 and 2024, Chopra walks into this year’s final after a prolific season where he even breached the 90m-mark. His qualification was confirmed just a few days ago after he finished fourth in the standings with 15 points to his name.
Neeraj Chopra to compete with top-ranked javelin throwers at Zurich Diamond League 2025
The 27-year-old notably appeared in only two of the four Diamond League events this season. In Doha edition in May, the 27-year-old threw 90.23m, surpassing the 90m-mark. However, despite this massive throw, he finished second behind Germany’s Julian Weber. He then made a strong comeback at the Paris meet in June and claimed a victory with 88.16m throw.
With the final showdown set to happen this week in Zurich, Neeraj Chopra is scheduled to face stiff competition as he will be joined by the likes of two-time Diamond League champion Anderson Peters, Germany’s Julian Weber, Olympic champion Keshorn Walcott, Julius Yego of Kenya and Andrian Mardare of Moldova. Swiss star Simon Wieland have also been included in the line-up.
