There has been a lot of debate after the BCCI announced the Indian squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025. Star opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswaldidn’t get a place in the squad but has been picked as a reserve
player for the upcoming tournament in UAE. Jaiswal last played a T20I for India in July 2024 and became a regular member in the Test format after that.
The left-hander had an impressive outing in the T20Is so far amassing 723 runs from 23 matches at an average of 36.15 and a strike rate of 164.31. However, it has been more than a year since Jaiswal played his last T20I match for India. Now, after his snub from the Asia Cup squad, an old video of Head Coach Gautam Gambhir is going viral on social media where he said that Jaiswal should be an all-format player for India and also be a part of the squad for the T20 World Cup.
Jaiswal should be a part of the team in all three formats: Gautam Gambhir back in 2023
Yashasvi Jaiswal made his T20I debut for India in a match against West Indies in August 2023. He was also a part of the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 but didn’t get to play a single match as Virat Kohli was first choice opener along with captain Rohit Sharma for the whole tournament. Back in 2023, Gautam Gambhir, who wasn’t a coach of the Indian team at that time gave an interview to News18 where he suggested that Jaiswal should play all three formats and should also be a part of the squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Now, with Gambhir as Head Coach of the Indian Cricket team, Jaiswal didn’t get a place in the squad for the Asia Cup 2025, which is important ahead of the T20 World Cup next year. This is the reason why fans are sharing a clip from his old interview back in 2023.
