Noted Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka had a tough outing in the Asia Cup 2025 match against Pakistan, a contest that he would really want to forget soon, in fact, as early as possible. So why is that?
This is what happened- after a strong performance against Bangladesh, which was his most recent contest before the one versus Pakistan, Dasun Shanaka stooped to a low that no cricketer would want to experience.
The 34-year-old year old cricketer scored an unbeaten 64 and took two wickets but that was against Bangladesh. But where it came to the game versus Pakistan, he was part of a headlining act that none would want.
Let's say, a news for the wrong reason.
The Negombo-born cricketer was dismissed for a duck on September 23, 2025, i.e., Tuesday, setting a new record for the most ducks in T20 International cricket history. This was his 14th duck in 102 T20I innings, putting him ahead of Soumya Sarkar and Paul Stirling among players from full member nations.
But having said that, let us also remember a fact. And it's that Dasun Shanaka has still been an important player for Sri Lanka in T20Is. He has scored 1,601 runs at a strike rate of 123.05 and has taken 38 wickets in 61 innings with the ball, averaging 22.86. The strike rate may seem like it deserves some work, but he's got the useful experience.
But despite his contributions, he has often struggled to get off the mark. India’s Rohit Sharma, a former captain in T20Is, is also high on the list with 12 ducks in his career. And it is never a pleasant thing to be remembered for, right?
