The blockbuster fixture of the third Premier League weekend between the champions and runners-up of the previous season, Liverpool and Arsenal respectively, took place at Anfield. Both the teams and the fans
were equally excited to see the drama unfold apart from learning which one of the them is currently the strongest in the Premier League at the start of the 2025-26 season.
The only point of difference between both the teams was Dominik Szoboslzai’s sublime free-kick curling into the left post, smashing the frame of the post and ending up into the back of the net in the 83th minute, which ultimately helped Liverpool defeat Arsenal 1-0. The key moment in the contest happened after Liverpool were trying to initiate an attack as Virgil Van Dijk passed the ball through the centre of the field to Curtis Jones who was fouled by Arsenal’s latest midfield addition Martin Zubimendi in a dangerous area.

It was Dominik Szoboszlai and Mohamed Salah who were lining up for the free kick. Salah made a move into the box prior to the free kick before Szoboszlai took up the responsibility and dispatched it into the back of the net.
Liverpool won tightly contested match to take early lead in Premier League table
The Liverpool fans at Anfield erupted in celebrations and could not help without applauding the brilliant set-piece taken by the Hungarian midfielder, who played as a right-back for Liverpool in the contest. While the match was evenly poised for the most of it, the individual brilliance from Dominik Szoboszlai separated the great from the good. It was also his second consecutive match-winning contribution after he made a sleeky run into the box, to put the ball on a silver platter for the 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha to score a goal and guide the team to victory late on against Newcastle United last weekend.
Moreover, both Liverpool and Arsenal weren't able to create many shots on target due to being tactically set up very well by their respecitve coaches Arne Slot and Mikel Arteta to defend threats for most of the contest. The home advantage favoured Liverpool slightly, however Arsenal were making it difficult for Liverpool to dominate. The match ended with three points in the bag for Liverpool. leaving the visitors to reflect on what might have been.
