Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh got his maiden Test call-up for the recently ended Test series against England. However, he didn’t get to play a single match throughout the series despite having experience
of playing County Cricket. Arshdeep also didn’t get a place in the playing XI for the Champions Trophy 2025 despite being in the squad. Recently, Punjab’s Bowling Coach Gagandeep Singh revealed Arshdeep got frustrated after not getting chances in the England tour.
Arshdeep Singh has played 21 First Class matches so far taking 66 scalps and was also seen playing County Cricket in the English summer this year. However, he didn’t get a chance throughout the five-match series in England despite several changes in the playing XI throughout the series. Punjab Coach Gagandeep Singh believes that the team management wasn’t confident to give chance to him.
“A few months ago when he was in England, I spoke to him. He was getting impatient that he was not getting a chance. I just told him, ‘You’ve to wait for your time’. I think they should’ve played him in England because he’s a swing bowler and he’s tall, everything’s good. I don’t know the team combinations, probably the coach (Gautam Gambhir) and captain (Shubman Gill) weren’t confident about him,” Gagandeep was quoted as saying by India Today.
Arshdeep can work more on line and length: Gagandeep Singh
Speaking further, Gagandeep Singh suggested Arshdeep Singh to bring more variations in his bowling and work on line and length. The Punjab Bowling Coach feels that Arshdeep has to bring more yorkers and bouncers which can be effective in International cricket.
“He can be a better bowler with more swing and more accuracy. I haven’t seen him in the last few months, but hopefully when I do, I can assess him better. From the recent matches that I have observed, he can work more on line and length, yorker balls, and especially bouncers, which are the more effective deliveries in international cricket,” Gagandeep said.
