In the fifth and final T20I of the series, Glenn Maxwell, one of the best all-rounders for Australia in white-ball cricket, dropped an easy catch of the Indian opening batter Abhishek Sharma. At the Gabba
in Brisbane, the big moment happened in the first over of the contest itself when left-arm pacer Ben Dwarshius bowled a fuller length delivery which Abhishek Sharma tried to loft towards the long off region but his timing was off.
Glenn Maxwell, who was stationed at mid-off, went a few steps back under the high ball but he wasn’t completely balanced at any stage, which led to the ball spilling out of his hand. Abhishek Sharma managed to survive and reached the milestone of 1,000 runs in T20I cricket before being dropped by Ben Dwarshius on the bowling of Nathan Ellis in the same over.
He went on to become the fastest to 1,000 runs in T20Is in just 528 balls apart from being the second fastest Indian to get to the coveted number in 28 innings, just one innings more than Virat Kohli. The players were taken off at the Gabba in Brisbane due to a lightning threat when India had reached 52/0 in 4.5 overs with Abhishek Sharma (23* off 13) and Shubman Gill (29* off 16) still at the crease.
The torrential downpour arrived shortly after at the venue and following that, the play has been halted for quite some time now.
