Olympic and world champion Neeraj Chopra won the silver medal in the men's javelin throw at the Commonwealth Games on Friday after Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage produced a sensational 89.75m throw to
clinch gold at Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow. Competing in chilly 14-degree conditions, Neeraj managed a season's best effort of 85.83m, while India's Yash Vir Singh secured the bronze medal with a personal-best throw of 85.41m.

Speaking to the press, Neeraj said he was happy with the silver and more so because it had two Indians on the podium. โI am very happy. It was similar at the Asian Games in 2023, where I won gold and Kishore Jena won silver. Yash Vir has done his personal best here, which was very important for him. And I am very happy that we are on the podium. I am always happy whenever the national anthem is played. But itโs ok [to win silver] as I did my personal best and my comeback is getting better,โ he said.

Yash Vir Singh's final throw seals historic bronze and India's double podium finish
For most of the competition, Yash did not appear to be in medal contention. He was battling against Douw Smit and Pieters, while two fouls in his first and fourth attempts, along with a best throw of 81.33m, left him with a mountain to climb heading into his final attempt.
