Team Indiapacer Jasprit Bumrah will be seen in action in T20 Internationals (T20I) after 14 months, with his appearance in the Asia Cup 2025, set to be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from September
9. Bumrah’s responsibility will be to spearhead India’s bowling attack confidently in the marquee tournament. His last T20I tournament was the T20 World Cup 2024, in which he contributed 15 wickets to India’s title win, after playing eight contests. In the Asia Cup 2025, the 31-year-old will be expected to do wonders with the ball to help the reigning champions defend the title.
Four days ahead of India’s maiden game against the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Jasprit Bumrah was seen in the team’s practice session and also said that he is delighted to return to India's T20I camp after a long absence. "It feels really good to join the T20 group after a long time. This three-week window was really good, got some time at home," remarked India's fast-bowling spearhead.
Jasprit Bumrah’s recent T20 performance
Jasprit Bumrah hasn't played any T20I in the last 14 months but he registered his presence for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Appearing in 12 games for the five-time IPL champions, he bagged 18 wickets at a frugal economy of 6.67.
Bumrah hasn’t played in the Asia Cup organised in T20I formats. In 2022, he was ruled out of the tournament due to back spasm. India missed his services and couldn’t qualify for the final after losing to Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Super 4 round. This time, he will be expected to dominate batters and guide India to their ninth Asia Cup trophy. The veteran speedster is only 11 wickets away from completing his 100 wickets in T20Is and it will be interesting to witness whether he will succeed in achieving the record in the upcoming event.
