A lot has changed in Team India in the last 14 months after the side’s famous T20 World Cup 2024 win. Following that sensational success, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja bid adieu to the shortest
format of the sport. After 10 months, Rohit and Kohli retired from Test cricket following their miserable outings in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 held in Australia. Now, both legends are active in One-Day Internationals (ODI) only and their fans are expecting them to be active in the format until the World Cup 2027 to be played in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.
Amidst these developments, BCCI is looking to hold a conversation with both illustrious names regarding their ODI future as several young names are also awaiting their chance for the longest white-ball format. A BCCI source while speaking to PTI has revealed that the board is serious about India’s preparation for the World Cup 2027 and it will also chalk out a plan for the colossal event. India’s apex cricketing body is also looking to give opportunities to young players to build the side. "Yes, it will be discussed soon. We still have more than two years for the next World Cup (November 2027). Both Kohli and Rohit will be pushing 40 by then, so, there has to be a clear plan ahead for the big event as our last win was in 2011. We also need to try out a few youngsters in time,” said the BCCI source.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli expected to be seen in Australia ODIs
Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohliare highly expected to feature in the three-match ODI series in Australia in October. Both were last featured in the Champions Trophy 2025 held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in February-March. The Men in Blue won their third Champions Trophy title under Rohit’s captaincy.
Rohit’s next task will be to guide the team to the 50-over series win against Australia in the upcoming tour. In 2019, India won their last ODI competition Down Under in Virat Kohli’s leadership in 2018.
