What is the story about?
England captain and Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane expressed delight on Monday after winning the 2026 men's Ballon d'Or, calling it an unforgettable, incredible feeling.
It was a special night for England as London hosted the Ballon d'Or gala, and one of their own won the prestigious individual award. Kane delivered an exceptional performance throughout the 2025-26 season, excelling for both his club and country.
Kane's captaincy and performance at the 2026 World Cup also received praise as he led England to a third-place finish in the global football showcase.
In a video posted on 'X' (Formerly Twitter), Kane described the award as a special and incredible achievement and was honoured to be recognised as the best player in the world at the moment. He also thanked his family & friends, teammates, coaching staff and supporters worldwide for their role in his success.
"Wow, what a special feeling. Amazing night here in London. Congrats to all the winners. Thank you to all my friends, family, teammates, coaching staff and all the fans around the World. It wouldn't be possible without you guys. So, yeah, best in the World right now. Feels incredible, thank you," Kane said.
Kane finished ahead of heavyweights such as France's Kylian Mbappe and Spain's rising sensation Lamine Yamal to claim the top honours. The Bayern striker delivered a prolific campaign, scoring 73 goals and eight assists across the season.
He also helped FC Bayern win the German treble (Bundesliga, German Cup and German Super Cup), and his contributions have helped his bid to claim the 2026 men's Ballon d'Or. Kane is also the first Englishman to win it since Michael Owen in 2001, marking a historic achievement in English football.
