Convenient Travel Options
Passengers embarking on journeys from Shimla's Tutikandi Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) can now avail themselves of a newly launched prepaid taxi service.
This organized system, managed by the Taxi Union and comprising a fleet of 115 vehicles, is designed to streamline travel for a significant number of destinations. The service extends to 26 distinct locations within Shimla city, ensuring widespread coverage for local commuters and tourists alike. Furthermore, the service provides direct links to two key external hubs: Chandigarh city and the Chandigarh International Airport, offering a vital connection for those traveling beyond Shimla.
Simplified Booking Process
The operational framework of this prepaid taxi service is centered on user convenience and upfront transparency. Travelers wishing to utilize the service must first proceed to the dedicated prepaid taxi counter located within the ISBT at Tutikandi. Here, they will book their desired ride and complete the payment for the journey. Upon successful payment, passengers are issued a payment slip. This slip serves as a crucial document that must be presented to the taxi driver before commencing the trip. The driver then facilitates the drop-off at the passenger's designated location. Upon returning to the ISBT, the driver submits this payment slip to the counter, thereby receiving their fare for the completed journey, ensuring a closed-loop system.
Revised Fare Structure
The Himachal Pradesh Transport Department has implemented updated fare rates for the pre-paid taxis operating on a point-to-point basis from Shimla's ISBT to Chandigarh. These revised fares have been officially notified under the guidelines of the Himachal Pradesh Pre-Paid Taxi Scheme-2004. For travel from ISBT, Shimla, to Chandigarh (City), the new fixed fare is Rs 3,000 for a standard taxi and Rs 5,000 for a maxi cab. If the destination is Chandigarh International Airport, the fare is set at Rs 3,500 for a taxi and Rs 5,500 for a maxi cab, providing clear and predetermined costs for passengers.
Enhanced Passenger Safety
A significant advantage of this prepaid system is the elimination of potential fare disputes between passengers and drivers. By paying the fare in advance at the counter, travelers are assured of a fixed cost for their journey. This proactive approach ensures that passengers will not encounter any inconvenience or disagreements regarding charges upon reaching their destination. This initiative underscores the government's commitment to providing a more secure and predictable travel experience for everyone using the prepaid taxi service from the ISBT.
Promoting Transparency and Safety
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu highlighted the multifaceted benefits of this newly launched service. He emphasized that the initiative promotes considerable transparency, as the Transport Department has clearly notified the fare rates, leaving no room for ambiguity. This clarity directly contributes to enhanced passenger safety, fostering a sense of security for both the large influx of tourists visiting the region and the local residents. The predictable pricing and organized system are expected to significantly improve the overall travel experience.
