Delhi's Strong Start
The Delhi Capitals set an imposing target of 204 runs in the WPL 2026 final, establishing a new record for the highest total in a WPL championship match.
Their innings was spearheaded by a brilliant half-century from skipper Jemimah Rodrigues, who scored 57 runs off 37 deliveries, and a powerful cameo from Chinelle Henry, who smashed 35 runs from just 15 balls. Earlier in the innings, Laura Wolvaardt contributed a quick 44 not out from 25 balls, and Lizelle Lee chipped in with 37 runs off 30 balls, providing significant momentum after a relatively quiet start. The early overs saw Shafali Verma and Lizelle Lee struggle to break free against the disciplined bowling of Lauren Bell and Sayali Satghare. However, a crucial over from Satghare, which yielded 20 runs including two sixes from Lee, shifted the momentum decisively in favour of Delhi. Despite a brief setback with the wicket of Shafali Verma, caught smartly by Richa Ghosh off Arundhati Reddy's bowling, Delhi continued to build a substantial score. The partnership between Rodrigues and Wolvaardt proved particularly effective, adding 76 runs and keeping the pressure on Royal Challengers Bengaluru as they aimed for a record-breaking total.
RCB's Dominant Chase
Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Smriti Mandhana and Georgia Voll delivered exceptional performances to guide their team to a second WPL title, successfully chasing down the massive 204-run target set by Delhi Capitals. Mandhana played a captain's knock, scoring an unbeaten 87 runs, while Voll provided crucial support with a blistering 79. Their outstanding partnership dismantled Delhi's bowling attack, enabling RCB to achieve a commanding six-wicket victory. This triumph marks a significant achievement for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, solidifying their position as a powerhouse in the league. Conversely, it was another night of disappointment for the Delhi Capitals, who, despite reaching every WPL final to date, have yet to secure a championship. The chase was characterized by aggressive batting and unwavering determination, as Mandhana and Voll expertly navigated the pressure to secure the coveted trophy for their franchise.
