The auction for the 2026 Indian Premier League is all set to take place on December 16 at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. Renowned art collector and auctioneer Mallika Sagar, who recently conducted the mega
auction for the Women's Premier League 2026, will be conducting the grand event. The upcoming auction will be third one to not be held in India.
A total of 359 players have been shortlisted out of the 1355 listed names. Out of the 359, 244 are Indian and 115 are overseas. A total of 40 players have set their base price at the maximum limit of INR 2 crore. Only two of those (Venkatesh Iyer and Ravi Bishnoi) 40 are Indians.
A total of 77 slots are available to be filled, of which 31 are for overseas players. With 13 vacancies, Kolkata Knight Riders have the most slots available. They are closely followed by Sunrisers Hyderabad with 10 to their name.
The likes of Devon Conway, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Sarfaraz Khan, David Miller and Prithvi Shaw will be present for the franchises to go after in the initial round. Several uncapped players who have been performing well in the domestic circuit such as Jammu & Kashmir's Auqib Nabi, Rajasthan's Ashok Sharma and Uttar Pradesh's Prashant Veer, are also a part of the auction.
The maximum squad size a franchise can attain is 25 players. An eight-player cap has been placed for overseas players. The minimum size a squad has to be is of 18 players. The auction is set to get underway with a set of capped batters.
