Ace Indian batter Virat Kohlibrought up his 52nd ODI ton during the series-opening clash of the three-match ODI series between India and South Africa on November 30. The crowd at JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi went wild after Kohli brought up the milestone.
Coming to bat in the fourth over after the fall of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Kohli looked in ease right from the get go as he set the tone with a six and a four off consecutive balls in the eighth over.
He went past the 50-run mark with a remarkable
maximum which was a classic Kohli short off the bowling of Corbin Bosch. He brought up his fifth six by dancing down the track to heave the ball over long-on for a flat maximum. Kohli brought up his third ODI century in Ranchi, which was also his sixth ODI century against the Proteas.
With this, he surpassed Sachin Tendulkar and David Warner's tally of five ODI tons against the South Africans. Kohli was dismissed for a 120-ball 135, which comprised 11 fours and seven sixes. India ended up on 349/8 at the end of 50 overs. The Men in Blue go into the innings break with momentum on their side.
