Gujarat Giants (GG) have announced Jintimani Kalita as an injury replacement for young fast bowler Titas Sadhu ahead of the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL) season. Kalita, who previously represented Mumbai Indians (MI) in the league, has joined the Gujarat Giants squad for a fee of INR 10 lakh.
Kalita brings prior WPL experience, having featured in 13 matches for Mumbai Indians. While her numbers in the league have not been particularly impressive so far, she offers versatility as a left-handed
batter and a right-arm medium pacer. The 22-year-old will be eager to make the most of this opportunity and establish herself in the Gujarat Giants setup as the tournament progresses.
Titas Sadhu, whom Kalita replaces, has been sidelined due to injury. Sadhu previously represented Delhi Capitals for two seasons in the WPL, playing seven matches and picking up four wickets. At the international level, she has already gained valuable experience, having represented India in eight ODIs and 12 T20Is.
Speaking about WPL 2025-26, Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women have been the standout team so far, qualifying for the next round with five wins from five matches. In contrast, Gujarat Giants find themselves at the bottom of the points table, managing just two wins from five games.
Despite their struggles, there have been some positives for the Gujarat Giants. The captain Ashleigh Gardner has led from the front with the bat, scoring 191 runs in five matches to emerge as the team’s leading run-scorer. Meanwhile, Sophie Devine has been impressive with the ball, claiming nine wickets in five outings.
Gujarat Giants began their campaign on a promising note, registering victories over UP Warriorz and Delhi Capitals in closely fought encounters. However, a lack of consistency in subsequent matches and defeats against stronger franchises have exposed their shortcomings at crucial moments. The team will now look to put those setbacks behind them and bounce back strongly in the second half of the tournament.
Gujarat Giants are set to face UP Warriorz Women on Thursday, January 22, in Vadodara. The upcoming clash presents a crucial opportunity for GG to revive their campaign, improve their position on the points table, and keep their hopes alive of reaching the WPL final for the first time.
