The Jharkhand Cricket Association has submitted a formal complaint to the Board of Control for Cricket in India, alleging that an official scorer omitted one completed run during the closing stages of their Women's Under-19 chase against Uttarakhand. The JCA contends that this single omission denied Jharkhand at least a tie and brought their tournament campaign to an abrupt end.
Uttarakhand batted first last Tuesday and posted 134 for 6. Jharkhand were dismissed for 133 off the final delivery of their
innings, falling short by one run. That defeat sent Jharkhand out of the Women's Under-19 tournament. The JCA's complaint argues the disputed call changed the result of the match and robbed the side of a minimum share of the points.
What happened at 19.4 overs during Jharkhand's chase?
The JCA's account of the incident is precise. At the 19.4-over mark of Jharkhand's reply, one of their batters was run out while attempting a second run. According to the association, the official scorer logged only the dismissal and did not credit the first run that had already been completed before the batter was dismissed. That run was therefore never reflected in Jharkhand's total.
The match situation at the Amritbai Daga College ground in Nagpur was tight throughout. With Uttarakhand having made 134 for 6 batting first last Tuesday, Jharkhand believed they required 2 runs to win or 1 run to tie. The scoreboard operator at the ground did add the disputed run to the display during the chase, and the Jharkhand players continued their innings on the basis of that updated tally.
When the final result was confirmed as a one-run defeat, the players were left stunned, having believed a single was completed before the run-out on that delivery. They challenged the scorer at the ground immediately after the match concluded, but the scorer declined to alter the entry, according to the complaint.
What is the basis of JCA's complaint to the BCCI?
"The scoreboard at the far end had the updated score after each ball but the main scorer forgot to add one run which cost us a tie. We requested the scorer to make the correction but he didn’t. As per the rule, umpires have to go by the scorer and not at the person doing scoring at the scoreboard," a Jharkhand Cricket official was quoted as saying by Outlook.
JCA's argument to the BCCI rests on that procedural point. Under the applicable playing conditions, umpires are bound by the official scorer's entry rather than the tally shown on the venue scoreboard. Because the main scorer's record excluded the disputed run, the match result stood as a one-run loss and Jharkhand's campaign in the Women's Under-19 tournament ended. The BCCI's response to the complaint and any action taken had not been confirmed at the time of writing.
