New Zealand will host India in a five-match T20I series, beginning on October 22, 2026, at Hagley Oval in Christchurch. The series will feature some exciting contests, with the hosts looking to make the most of home conditions against a formidable Indian side led by Shreyas Iyer.
The first two T20Is will be played in Christchurch, followed by matches in Wellington, Auckland and Hamilton. Mitchell Santner will lead New Zealand, who have several players capable of challenging India with both bat and ball.
Here are the 3 New Zealand players who could trouble India in T20Is:
3. Lockie Ferguson
Lockie Ferguson will be one of New Zealand's key bowling options in the series, with his ability to generate express pace making him a threat against India's aggressive batting lineup. The right-arm fast bowler is known for his high release point, steep bounce, and ability to hurry batters with deliveries exceeding 145 kmph.
Ferguson has picked up six wickets in his last five matches at an economy rate of 7.48 and a strike rate of 15.5, according to the recent statistics provided. His knack for breaking partnerships could prove important against an Indian lineup featuring several powerful hitters.
India's top order will need to negotiate Ferguson's pace carefully, particularly in the powerplay. If he finds rhythm early, he could provide New Zealand with crucial breakthroughs.
2. Tim Seifert
Tim Seiferthas emerged as an important attacking option for New Zealand at the top of the order. The wicketkeeper-batter has scored 145 runs in his last three matches at an average of 48.33 and a strike rate of 172.61, making him one of the hosts' most in-form batters heading into the series.
Seifert is an aggressive right-handed batter who looks to capitalise on fielding restrictions. He can attack pace through the line, use his wrists to find gaps and put pressure on bowlers with his ability to clear the boundary. His adaptability also allows him to adjust his approach depending on the match situation.
The opener is likely to partner Finn Allen, giving New Zealand a combination of two batters capable of scoring quickly in the powerplay. While Allen often looks to attack from the first ball, Seifert can complement him by maintaining the scoring rate and punishing loose deliveries.
1. Finn Allen
Finn Allen is arguably New Zealand's biggest batting threat heading into the T20I series. The explosive opener is renowned for his fearless approach, powerful hitting and ability to take apart bowling attacks within a few overs.
Allen has scored 138 runs in his last three matches at an average of 69 and a remarkable strike rate of 233.89, according to the recent statistics provided. These numbers underline his ability to score rapidly while remaining consistent at the crease.
The right-handed batter is particularly dangerous during the powerplay, when he looks to attack both pace and spin rather than allow bowlers to settle into a rhythm. He has an aggressive range of strokes, including powerful drives, pulls and lofted shots over the infield. His ability to hit boundaries regularly can force captains to change their plans early.
If Allen gets going, he can put New Zealand in a commanding position within the first six overs. For India, dismissing him early will be one of the biggest priorities throughout the series.
