being around Shreyas, the family has opted not to travel to Sydney, where the 30-year-old is being treated at the St. Vincent Private Hospital.
“The BCCI is monitoring his injury and he is on a recovery path. The best doctor in Sydney is treating him. He is likely to get discharged by weekend and perhaps may get even before that. Since he is not a part of the T20I squad, he will return soon. Contrary to earlier reports, we are not going to Sydney," Santosh Iyer told Deccan Chronicle.
How did Shreyas Iyer get injured?
During the third ODI between Australia and India on Sunday at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Shreyas ran in towards a ball while fielding in the first innings to complete a spectacular running-from-behind catch. However, in a successful to grab the ball, the Mumbai-born landed awkwardly on his abdominal area, which took a huge blow around the rib cage region, and he had to leave the field midway.
Upon leaving the field, Shreyas complained of further discomfort, which prompted the team physio Kamlesh Jain to advise him to get immediately hospitalized. At the private hospital in Sydney, it was later confirmed that Shreyas faced a laceration to his spleen, which also caused a lot of internal bleeding. However, the situation is currently under control, as also confirmed by India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav during the press conference on Wednesday.
