BCB pledges enhanced security for India’s tour of Bangladesh if situation requires

Bangladesh Cricket Board security committee chairman Sayeed Ibrahim Ahmed has pledged to step up security arrangements for India’s upcoming tour of Bangladesh, saying the board would enhance its measures if the situation demanded it, while noting that formal communication between the two cricket boards is yet to begin.

India’s visit, originally planned for September, was postponed last year due to the diplomatic situation between the two neighbouring countries. The BCB-BCCI relationship has been under

strain for several months, with Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman’s removal from the IPL serving as a key flashpoint. The board moved to repair ties in April by writing to the BCCI and flagging India’s impending tour as a matter of priority.

“Security is always a concern for every touring side, especially for the major cricketing nations. We have not yet formally started communication with them. We are hopeful there will be no complaints if the tour takes place as planned,” Ibrahim said as quoted by Cricbuzz.

BCB on India tour preparations and security

The BCB official was direct about where things stood between the two boards.

“There has been no such positive message yet and we are still working out the details of the tour. We are trying to establish communication through our formal channels because the tour is coming up very soon,” Ibrahim added.

On the specific question of enhanced security measures, the chairman was unambiguous.

“We always try to organise our events in a controlled environment and ensure the highest standards of security. It will depend on the situation, and if required, we will enhance the security,” he said.

What led to the strained ties between BCB and BCCI?

Recent reports suggest momentum is building behind the scenes. The BCB has reportedly invited bids for television and digital media rights covering its 2026 and 2027 home international calendar, a move widely interpreted as an indication that the hosts are treating India’s tour as near-certain.

India and Bangladesh are expected to play a white-ball series in August or September. No official dates have been confirmed by either board.
