Bangladesh government’s sports advisor Asif Nazrul is set to meet the national men’s cricketers to brief them on the evolving situation surrounding Bangladesh’s participation in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, a Bangladesh Cricket Board source confirmed.
The meeting has been convened amid growing uncertainty after the International Cricket Council rejected the BCB’s request to relocate Bangladesh’s World Cup fixtures from India to Sri Lanka. The government is expected to use the session to outline
its position while also hearing the concerns and expectations of the players as learnt from Cricbuzz.
The move follows public comments from Bangladesh T20I captain Litton Kumar Das, who recently acknowledged that players were not consulted as uncertainty intensified over the team’s participation in the tournament. His remarks highlighted a lack of communication between key stakeholders at a time when clarity is critical for preparation and planning.
According to sources, attendance at the meeting has been requested from national cricketers as the government seeks to directly engage with the squad. Nazrul is expected to explain the broader context of the ICC’s decision and the implications it carries for Bangladesh cricket, while also inviting feedback from players on their stance regarding participation in the World Cup.
It is understood that the discussion will include player concerns related to security, logistics, and readiness, should the team eventually travel to India for the global event. Nazrul is also likely to explore potential pathways to ease the impasse and identify steps that could help resolve the crisis in coordination with the cricket board and international authorities.
With preparations for the World Cup gradually accelerating, the meeting is being viewed as a key step toward restoring dialogue between the government, the board, and the players. While no immediate resolution is expected, the interaction could prove decisive in shaping Bangladesh’s approach in the coming weeks as the situation continues to unfold.
