Ireland skipper Paul Stirling produced a moment of sheer brilliance in the field during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 clash against Australia, pulling off a sensational diving catch to send the dangerous Josh Inglis packing at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo during Match No. 14 on Wednesday, February 11.
The moment came to fore on the fifth ball of the seventh over when George Dockrell extracted grip from the surface and delivered one ball that turned slightly. Inglis, who had looked in fine
touch, appeared caught in two minds and ended up chipping the ball towards cover with a lofted drive. Stationed at cover, Stirling reacted instantly, diving sharply and grabbing the ball inches above the turf, completing a superb catch.
The effort not only broke Australia’s momentum but also brought an end to Inglis’ promising cameo. Inglis walked back after scoring a quickfire 37 off 17 balls, which included six fours and a six. Just when he looked set to accelerate further, Stirling’s sharp reflexes ensured Ireland pulled things back at a crucial juncture.
