With the T20 World Cup 2026roughly a week away, Sri Lanka (SL) will take on England (ENG) for the first T20I of the three-match series on Friday, January 30, at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy.
Sri Lanka have been having a very substandard time in T20I cricket of late. In their last five encounters in the shortest format of the game, the Lankan Lions have managed only a couple of wins, which is slightly concerning. They will want to fix all the issues within the side in the upcoming
series and enter the World Cup with high confidence.
England, on the other hand, have not lost a single contest out of the last five T20I fixtures. The Harry Brook-led side will use the three-match series as their dress rehearsal to get used to the conditions in the Indian subcontinent and give themselves a better chance to lift their third piece of silverware in T20 World Cup history.

Pallekele International Cricket Stadium: Pitch Report
The Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy is known to produce well-balanced pitches for thrilling 20-over encounters. Out of the 27 international fixtures held at the venue in the shortest format, teams batting first have won 14 times, with the average first-inning score ranging around 162. During the run chases, the pitch here becomes difficult to bat on as the cracks on the wicket open up. Batting first will be a wise call at this venue.

SL vs ENG: Probable Best Performers
Probable Best Batter: Phil Salt
Opening batter Phil Salt is among the best batters in T20 cricket right now. With his ability to set the tempo right from the word 'go', Salt can instantly add pressure on the opposition. Scoring quick runs in the powerplay overs alongside his partner Jos Buttler can pose a real threat to even the best bowling attacks in the world. Salt is expected to be the top run-getter in the upcoming contest.
Probable Best Bowler: Matheesha Pathirana
A tall, lanky fast bowler, but a slingy action is what best defines Matheesha Pathirana. However, he can bowl some match-defining spells himself by delivering tightly during the death overs. His sheer mastery to nail the yorkers and stem the flow of runs towards the fag end of the innings can dent the opposition's confidence by quite a distance. Pathirana can be the bowler to watch out for in the series opener.
