The first edition of the Asia Cup was played in 1984. However, the inaugural T20 version of the continental competition was held in 2016. This was introduced to help the Asian teams get some useful preparation ahead of ICC events held in the T20 format.
The first two editions of the T20 Asia Cups were played in 2016 and 2022. This helped teams prepare for the 2016 and 2022 T20 World Cups, respectively. This year, the competition is being held in the 20-over format once again, as the upcoming T20 World Cup gets
underway in February 2026, set to be held in the Indian subcontinent.

4. India - Lost 2
India have lost the least number of matches in T20 Asia Cup history. They won the 2016 Asia Cup without suffering a defeat. However, in the 2022 edition of the tournament, the Men in Blue lost two games and couldn't retain their title.
In the ongoing Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates, the Suryakumar Yadav-led side has remained undefeated so far. They have registered victories against the hosts, the UAE, and arch-rivals Pakistan so far in the campaign. They are slated to play Oman in their last group-stage fixture, followed by the Super Four games against Pakistan and two other teams from the Group B, yet to be decided.
3. Sri Lanka, Oman - Lost 4
Sri Lanka and Oman have four defeats each in T20 Asia Cup history. The Lankan Lions lost three matches in the inaugural edition of the tournament. However, they performed brilliantly in 2022. Under Dasun Shanaka's inspirational leadership, Sri Lanka went on to win the title, losing just one game in the campaign.
On the other hand, Oman lost two games in the 2016 edition of the tournament. However, they didn't make it to the following edition in 2022. This year, under Jatinder Singh's leadership, Oman has encountered two defeats, and will be up against the might of the Men in Blue in their next at Abu Dhabi.
2. Afghanistan, Bangladesh - Lost 5
Afghanistan did not have a great start to the T20 Asia Cup. In the first edition, they couldn't get into the main tournament after losing to the UAE in the qualifiers. The Blue Tigers lost three matches in 2022 and one more this year.
Bangladesh, meanwhile, lost two games each in the first two editions of the tournament. In 2016, they lost to India in the summit clash. In the ongoing tournament, the Bangla Tigers lost to Sri Lanka by six wickets in Abu Dhabi. Afghanistan and Bangladesh have five defeats each in the T20 Asia Cups.
1. UAE, Pakistan, Hong Kong - Lost 6
UAE managed to qualify for the main round after winning a qualifying tournament in 2016. However, they lost all four of their matches in the main competition. After missing out on the 2022 tournament, the UAE returned this year, losing two out of their three matches. Hong Kong lost all three matches in the qualifying stage in 2016. They also failed to register a win in their three Group B games this year. Hong Kong wasn't a part of the 2022 edition of the tournament.
Pakistan are the two-time champions in the 50-over Asia Cups. However, they are yet to win the T20 Asia Cup. The Men in Green lost two games in the first edition and three more in the second. In the current edition of the tournament, they have one defeat and two wins from three games. Pakistan have six defeats in total in T20 Asia Cups, tied with the UAE and Hong Kong.
