The Asia Cup 2025 is currently underway, with eight teams battling it out for continental glory. Every team has played at least one match, with some starting strong while others are still searching for their first points. Today, September 14, the tournament gears up for its biggest clash as India takes on Pakistan in Dubai.
The Men in Blue hold the record for the most titles won in the continental competition, and they will be looking to extend their dominance as they prepare for the T20 World Cup,

Throwback: India’s last 3 Asia Cup wins
2023 (Captain — Rohit Sharma)
The most recent Asia Cup win for India came in 2023, played in the ODI format under the leadership of Rohit Sharma. India defeated Sri Lanka comfortably in the final to secure their eighth Asia Cup title. India topped their group after beating Nepal and advanced to the Super Four stage, where they went unbeaten with wins against Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.
For India, Shubman Gill emerged as the leading run-scorer with 302 runs in six innings, while Mohammed Siraj claimed 10 wickets in the tournament. However, it was Kuldeep Yadav who stood out with nine crucial wickets and was deservedly named the Player of the Tournament.
2018 (Captain — Rohit Sharma)
Earlier in 2018, India once again lifted the trophy under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. The team remained unbeaten throughout the competition, with their only hiccup being a thrilling tie against Afghanistan. In the final, India edged out Bangladesh in a tense contest, winning by three wickets to secure yet another Asia Cup crown.
Shikhar Dhawan played a starring role as the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 342 runs, including two centuries, which also earned him the Player of the Tournament award. Kuldeep Yadav was once again instrumental with the ball, finishing as the leading wicket-taker with 10 scalps.
2016 (Captain - MS Dhoni)
Going further back to 2016, India triumphed in the first-ever Asia Cup held in the T20 format under the leadership of MS Dhoni. The Men in Blue adapted brilliantly to the shorter format and went unbeaten throughout the tournament. In the summit clash, they outclassed Bangladesh to clinch the trophy, securing their first T20 Asia Cup title.
Virat Kohli was India’s leading run-scorer with 153 runs in four innings, while Hardik Pandya contributed significantly as the leading wicket-taker for India. The Player of the Tournament honor, however, went to Bangladesh’s Sabbir Rahman, who scored 176 runs and impressed with his contributions. For the record, this was MS Dhoni's last trophy as captain in multinational events.
