The USA has officially announced its 15-member squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in Sri Lanka and India.
This will be the United States’ second appearance at an ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, following a memorable debut in 2024. During that tournament, USA made global headlines by defeating Pakistan in a thrilling encounter that quickly became one of the standout moments of the competition. The team eventually progressed to the Super 8 stage, marking a historic achievement for American cricket.
The USA team will look to repeat history and leave their mark on the global stage once again.
The ICC Board suspended USA Cricket on September 23 on account of serious breaches of the ICC Membership Criteria. In making its decision, the ICC Board determined that the national team players should not be penalized or disadvantaged by the ongoing governance and financial instability within USA Cricket and as a result, the National Teams would continue to participate in ICC events, if need be, under the interim coordination of the ICC.
On account of USA Cricket’s ongoing suspension, and its subsequent decision to voluntarily enter into Chapter 11 Bankruptcy which has impacted the ICC efforts to manage National Team programs, a new selection process has been developed in partnership with the ICC and the US Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) to ensure transparency and a truly merit-based process for identifying and selecting the best eligible players to represent the United States.
All Members of the selection panel submitted Conflict of Interest forms to the USOPC ahead of the meeting and the selection meeting was observed by a USOPC appointed Compliance Officer to ensure adherence to the Cricket Selection Procedures.
As part of their preparation, Team USA has spent several weeks training in Sri Lanka, focusing on adapting to subcontinental conditions ahead of the World Cup. The camp has emphasized skill development, game awareness, and team bonding.
USA have been placed in Group A, where they will face Pakistan, Namibia, the Netherlands, and defending champions India.
Head Coach Pubudu Dassanayake stated,
“Our training in Sri Lanka pushed this team to new heights. We hit every target and that’s a testament to the players’ dedication and hard work. The World Cup squad is strong, balanced, and ready to dominate in every department. We’ll make those final adjustments before heading to Mumbai, and we’re fully confident in our team’s potential.”
Led by Monank Patel, the squad features a strong core of experience, with ten of the fifteen players having represented the USA at the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The remaining five
Shubham Ranjane will be seeking to make his T20I debut for USA, and Mohammad Mohsin and Shehan Jayasuriya will be seeking to make his international debut for USA.
