Brisbane Heat and Perth Scorchers were involved in a run-fest in Match 6 of the 2025-26 Big Bash League at the Gabba on December 19. A total of 515 runs were scored across both innings in what was a clash for the ages.
A formidable 258 was hunted down by the hosts with eight wickets and one delivery to spare. The Scorchers were left stunned after themselves putting on a show with the bat earlier in the evening.
There were several milestones which were broken during the match:
1) 258 is the highest successful
chase in the history of the BBL and the third highest in 20-over cricket. The previous record was tue 230-run chase by Adelaide Strikers against Hobart Hurricanes in the 2022-23.
2) Matt Renshaw and Jack Wildermuth became the first duo to amass tons during a run-chase in T20 cricket. It was also the maiden instance of two batters scoring hundreds in a Men's T20 game in Australia.
3) The 212-run stand off just 95 balls between Renshaw and Wildermuth was the highest partnership for any wicket in the BBL. Marcus Stoinis and Hilton Cartwright held the previous record of 207 for Melbourne Stars against Sydney Sixers in the 2019-20 iteration.
4) The two sides hit a total of 36 sixes in the match, which is also a BBL record. They overtook the previous-best of 26 sixes, which was hit in a BBL encounter twice; between the Sixers and the Stars (2020-21) and the Strikers and the Heat (2024-25).
5) Only six runs were conceded in the 14th over of the chase. Eight or more runs were scored in all the remaining overs of the match, making it the most number of overs for any Men's T20 game in which ball-by-ball data is available.
The Heat have now won and lost one each. They had lost their tournament-opening match against Melbourne Renegades. The Nathan McSweeney-led unit will take on Sydney Thunder next. The match is scheduled at the Manuka Oval in Canberra.
