The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced 21 crores as prize money for the Indian team and the support staff after they defeated Pakistan in the 2025 Asia Cup final on Sunday, September 28, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Pakistan only managed 146 in 19.1 overs after being asked to bat first by Suryakumar Yadav. Fakhar Zaman and Sahibzada Farhan got Pakistan off to a remarkable start with an 84-run partnership. However, India bounced back strongly at the back end of the innings
to keep the Men in Green down to a disappointing total.
However, Pakistani pacers took three wickets inside the powerplay to put India in a spot of bother. However, Tilak Varma forged crucial partnerships with Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube to calm the nerves in the Indian camp. In the end, Tilak finished unbeaten on 69 off 53 balls when Rinku Singh hit the winning runs in the 20th over.
India won the match in 19.4 overs with five wickets to spare. This was India's third victory against arch-rivals Pakistan in the 17th edition of the Asia Cup.
Referring to the three wins and India's stunning performance in the campaign, the BCCI posted a tweet to take a not-so-subtle dig at their neighbours.
"3 blows. 0 response. Asia Cup Champions. Message delivered. 21 crores prize money for the team and support staff," India's cricket governing body posted on 'X'.
Tilak was awarded Player of the Match for his dogged display under pressure. Meanwhile, Abhishek Sharma won the Player of the Tournament award after finishing as the highest run-getter. In seven innings, the Punjab batter amassed 314 runs at an average of 44.86 and a strike rate of 200.
