What started as a moment of euphoria for the fans of Chennai Super Kings soon turned into sorrows, as the five-time champions were shown their place in Match 3 of IPL 2026 by the Riyan Parag-led Rajasthan Royals at the ACA Barsapara Stadium, Guwahati, on Monday, March 30. CSK lost the match by a massive margin of eight wickets, as it took only 12.1 overs for RR to chase down the 128-run target.

Parag won the toss and opted to take the field first. The move worked wonders, as the RR bowlers wasted

no time in sending both the CSK openers packing. Nandre Burger put up a rampage on display with his lethal left-arm seamers, whereas Jofra Archer too kept things tight from his end. Ravindra Jadeja, back in RR after a gap of 214 matches, also struck twice in his first over itself.

Jamie Overton was the highest run-getter for Chennai, scoring a well-compiled 43 off 36, but it could not help CSK post anything beyond 127, as they were bundled out in the 20th over. The chase was never going to be a difficult task for the hosts, especially with the presence of a daunting opening pair of Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

The teenage prodigy was dropped on the first ball he faced and made Ruturaj Gaikwad's men pay a hefty price for it, smashing a thunderous 52 runs off just 17 balls. Suryavanshi's breathtaking stay at the crease ended when Sarfaraz Khan caught him at deep extra cover, also ending the 75-run opening partnership. Jaiswal struggled to find the middle of the bat but continued to rotate the strike sensibly.

He eventually stayed till the end for his unbeaten 38 off 36 balls alongside skipper Parag, as the hosts got over the line with eight wickets to spare. RR now find themselves at the top of the points table, securing a dominant win.
