Pakistan opener Gull Feroza has been officially reprimanded and handed one demerit point by the International Cricket Council after breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during Pakistan's Group A clash against Australia at the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026. The match was played at Headingley in Leeds on Tuesday, June 23.
The ICC found the opener in violation of Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which covers the abuse of cricket equipment, clothing,
and ground fixtures during an international match. According to the ICC, the batter threw her bat and gloves aggressively near the team dugout after being dismissed in the second over of Pakistan's innings.
What sanction did Gull Feroza receive?
Feroza accepted responsibility for her actions and agreed to the sanction proposed by match referee Michell Pereira of the ICC International Panel of Match Referees, meaning no formal disciplinary hearing was required. The charge was brought by on-field umpires Sue Redfern and Vrinda Rathi, along with third umpire Jacqueline Williams and fourth umpire Shathira Jakir Jesy. It is her first offence within a 24-month period.
Under the ICC Code of Conduct, Level 1 violations carry penalties ranging from an official reprimand to a fine of up to 50 percent of a player's match fee, along with one or two demerit points depending on the severity of the breach.
How did Pakistan fare against Australia?
On the field, it was a tough night for Pakistan at Headingley. Australia posted 199 for 7 in 20 overs, with Ellyse Perry at the heart of their batting effort. The veteran all-rounder struck 71 off 48 balls before returning figures of 2 for 9 with the ball, while Sophie Molineux chipped in with 2 for 6. Chasing 200, Pakistan's innings folded for 86 in 13.4 overs. Muneeba Ali's 32 was the only score of note, as three run-outs compounded Pakistan's troubles further.
The 113-run defeat left Pakistan without a single win from their four Group A matches, with their semi-final hopes long gone. Fatima Sana's side will look to end the tournament on a positive note. They take on the Netherlands at the Bristol County Ground on Saturday, June 27, in their final group-stage match.
