After setting Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 ablaze with his exemplary batting skills, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has earned his maiden call-up to the national team. He is a part of India's squads for the T20I series against Ireland and England and the subsequent Asian Games.
Sooryavanshi is expected to work closely with India's batting coach Sitanshu Kotak. The latter recently shared his take on coaching with batters at the international level and the challenges that come with it. Kotak mentioned that he will
only try to advise Sooryavanshi when he feels there is a need, as too many words can clutter his mind.
"See, as a batting coach or any coach, it's always a challenge to work with a player. Because at this level, they all have their own thinking, their own style, their own way they have succeeded. And then, you try to add something, it always takes time, it always takes the trust for them to believe. And for me, it is so important how much you want to add and when you want to add," Kotak was quoted as saying by India Today.
"Whenever we observe something, we will definitely try to help him in only much as he needs. The more complicated you make it with constant advice, the more cluttered the mind gets," he added.
Kotak said that he is excited to work with Sooryavanshi, especially after the youngster's massive success in the recently concluded IPL, where he won the Orange Cap.
"From last year's IPL and the way he bats, the way he executes those shots, it's really exciting to be very honest for a 15-year-old. And to all the world-class bowlers, the way he has faced and the way he has succeeded is unbelievable how talented he is. So, I am really excited," Kotak said.
However, the former Saurashtra cricketer said that he would allow the teenage sensation to get himself accustomed to the international arena.
"But personally, we let him come, let's see actually what helps him. It doesn't necessarily mean we have to get into anything in particular... because he is doing well," he added.
