West Indies posted 405/7 in the second ODI against India at Guwahati on September 30 2026, registering their highest-ever total in ODI cricket and crossing the 400-run mark for the first time in their ODI history. The innings set India a target of 406 to win the match.
Three West Indies batters scored centuries in the same ODI innings, which is the first time this has happened in West Indies ODI history. Shai Hope, John Campbell and Amir Jangoo all reached three figures in a dominant batting display
that rewrote the record books for the Caribbean side.
India had entered the match leading the three-match series 1-0 after winning the first ODI on September 27 2026.
How did West Indies build their record total?
John Campbell gave West Indies a flying start at the top of the order, scoring 101 off 66 balls and providing the innings with early momentum. Campbell reached his century off 65 deliveries before being dismissed off the next ball.
Shai Hope then anchored the innings with a measured 104 off 90 balls, providing the platform from which West Indies accelerated through the middle overs. Amir Jangoo played a decisive role in the middle order, scoring 114 off 77 balls in an innings that proved central to West Indies reaching the 400-run mark for the first time in their ODI history. This is also the first time that three West Indies batters have scored centuries in the same innings.
Hope and Jangoo put on 182 runs for the third wicket, a partnership that gave the innings its defining momentum and carried West Indies well beyond any total they had previously posted in the format. The lower order contributed enough in the closing overs to push the total to 405/7 from their full allocation of 50 overs. The combined effort of the three centurions represented a historic batting performance for the Caribbean side.
What does this mean for the series and India's chase?
India require 406 runs to win the second ODI and level the series at 1-1. A successful chase would rank second among the highest successful run chases in ODI history, making the task a formidable challenge for the home side batting second at Guwahati.
West Indies, by posting this record total, have kept the three-match series alive. A win for the visitors would level the series heading into the third and final ODI, while a successful Indian chase would seal the series for the home side. The result of India's chase will determine whether the series goes to a decider or is wrapped up by India.
