AUS vs IND 2025: Shreyas Iyer admitted to ICU after internal bleeding due to rib cage injury in Sydney ODI

Indian ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer suffered a serious injury during the third and final ODI against Australia in Sydney on Saturday, October 25. The incident occurred when Iyer took a brilliant running

catch near third man to dismiss Alex Carey, but landed awkwardly, sustaining a rib cage injury. He was immediately rushed to a Sydney hospital for medical attention.

As per the latest updates, Iyer has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after medical reports revealed internal bleeding caused by the injury. The middle-order batter is expected to remain under observation for five to seven days. Iyer scored 72 runs in two innings in the three-match ODI series, including a half-century in the second ODI at Adelaide.

"Shreyas has been in ICU for the past couple of days. After the reports came in, internal bleeding was detected, and he had to be admitted immediately. He will remain under observation for anywhere between two to seven days depending on recovery, as one needed to stop spreading of infection due to bleeding," said a source as quoted by India TV.

"The team doctor and physio didn't take any chances and took him to the hospital immediately. Things are stable now, but it could have been fatal. He's a tough lad and should be fine soon," the source added. "Since there has been internal bleeding, he will certainly need more time to recover, and at this point, it's difficult to put a definite timeline on his return to competitive cricket," the source added.
