Renowned commentator Harsha Bhogle unveiled his Test Team of the Year for 2025, and included those names who excelled in this format this year. Notably, his XI included four Indians.
KL Rahul was Bhogle’s first choice opener. Rahul’s who solidified his opening position this year, scored 813 runs from 19 innings at an average of 45. Bhogle described him as the ideal Test opener who is composed, technically sound, and reliable in challenging conditions.
Partnering with Rahul is Travis Head, an unconventional
selection. Though not a regular opener for most of the season, Head delivered when given the role, playing two match-winning innings in the ongoing Ashes. Bhogle spoke about Head’s value as an impact player rather than focusing solely on averages.
At number three, the commentator slotted India's current Test skipper, Shubman Gill. His experience as an opener earlier in his career and now as a No. 4 batter convinced Bhogle that he would transition smoothly into the role. Gill finished the year with 983 runs and five centuries, putting him in contention for Test Player of the Year. The middle order is anchored by two modern greats. Joe Root takes the number four spot, while Steve Smith bats at five.
My test team of 2025 with some special accolades at the end. Do you agree?https://t.co/ghuJLVwQYL
