Virat Kohli struck an unbeaten 139 off 88 balls on September 27 to guide India to a target of 296 runs in 41.4 overs, sealing an 8-wicket victory over West Indies in the opening match of a three-game series at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.
Kohli hit 10 fours and nine sixes during his stay at the crease. He put on 151 runs for the second wicket alongside captain Shubman Gill, who contributed 110 off 108 balls. After Gill's dismissal in the 34th over, Kohli finished the chase
alongside Ruturaj Gaikwad, who added 13 off 19 balls, as India moved into a 1-0 series lead.
The innings was packed with batting milestones spanning ODI and List A cricket, with several records previously held by Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma either broken or equalled.

What appearance record did Kohli set against West Indies?
Alongside his batting achievements, Kohli reached a significant landmark in terms of appearances. He has now played 44 ODIs against West Indies, surpassing Mohammad Azharuddin's previous record of 43 matches against the same opposition to become India's most-capped player in one-day internationals against the Men in Maroon.
The record underlines the consistency with which Kohli has featured in India's ODI line-up against West Indies across more than a decade of international cricket. His 44th appearance also came on a day when he produced one of the most milestone-laden innings of his career, making the occasion doubly significant.
