Washington Sundar gave a great account of his quality on Day 3 of the second Test between India and the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi as he bowled a brilliant delivery to dismiss the talented Alick Athanaze on the stroke of Tea.
Athanaze, who was the highest run-scorer for the West Indies in their first innings, played a wonderful shot to get off the mark with a boundary in the second. However, in the 15th over, Sundar bowled a beautiful delivery which drifted in with the angle
from round the wicket and drew the batter forward. However, the ball spun past Athanaze's defence after pitching and hit the off-stump. The Caribbean batter looked perplexed as he didn't do too much wrong, but still had to take the long walk back to the dressing room.
This turned out to be Sundar's first wicket in the match. In the first innings, he had bowled 13 overs and given away 41 runs without picking up a wicket.
Take a look at the video below:
Earlier in the day, India dismissed the West Indies for 248 in their first innings on the back of a brilliant bowling performance. Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of the bowlers, accounting for five wickets in 26.5 overs, giving away 82 runs. He found good support from Ravindra Jadeja, who bagged a three-for. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj chipped in with a wicket each.
India decided to enforce the follow-on. Since then, the West Indies have put forth a significantly better batting effort. John Campbell brought up his half-century off just 69 balls. The tourists' first target will be to wipe out the deficit.
