With heavy pre-match discussion around dew potentially influencing the contest, Bishop walked out of the commentary box and headed toward the boundary ropes at long-on. He lay down on the turf, almost as if he were in bed, and felt the grass to assess how much moisture had settled in.

After his inspection, Bishop reported that there wasn’t as much dew as typically expected in Mumbai conditions.

Meanwhile, in the game, England captain Harry Brook had opted to bowl first after winning the toss, citing records that favored chasing at the venue, particularly with dew expected to aid batting under lights. Shai Hope admitted that West Indies would have bowled first too, but stressed the need to set the tone with the bat.
