Star batter Virat Kohli was recently spotted visiting MS Dhoni’s residence in Ranchi on Thursday evening for a special dinner just days before India’s ODI series against South Africa. Kohli, who was accompanied
by a police convoy, waved to fans gathered outside Dhoni’s farmhouse. Rishabh Pant and Ruturaj Gaikwad were also seen joining the special evening at the former captain's house.
The Indian team reached Ranchi for the opening ODI of the three-match series beginning November 30. This series records the return of both Rohit Sharma and Kohli, who last played an ODI in Australia last month. Meanwhile, India enters the contest under pressure after a disappointing Test series loss. Kohli landed in Ranchi on Wednesday after flying in from Mumbai, and arrived for the practice session on the same day.
Local videos showed the star batter arriving with a police convoy as fans surrounded the entrance, hoping to catch a glimpse of him. The dinner gathering was an intimate one; no other senior teammates were present. However, Pant and Gaikwad were seen arriving for the dinner. Both share a close bond with Dhoni.

Earlier in the day, Kohli was one of the first to hit the nets at the JSCA International Stadium Complex. He trained alongside Rohit, Tilak Varma, and Gaikwad. For the veteran batter, the series also holds personal significance. With 14,255 ODI runs and 51 centuries, he remains the backbone of India’s World Cup 2027 plans. His return, along with Rohit reclaiming the No. 1 spot in the ICC ODI rankings, is a major boost to a team looking to bounce back after a loss in the Test leg.
