Yashasvi Jaiswal must be on cloud nine after slamming his maiden ODI century earlier this month in just his fourth game in the 50-over format. He became only the sixth Indian player to register three-figure scores across all three formats of the game.
The left-handed batter has already cemented his spot in India's red-ball setup, having made his debut in the format in 2023 against the West Indies. He is averaging 49.24 after aggregating 2511 runs in 28 Tests. Yashasvi has his sights on playing in the T20
World Cup.
The southpaw has played 23 T20Is so far, having scored 723 runs at an average of 36.15 and a strike rate of 164.32. However, he hasn't represented India in the format since July 2024.
"My dream is to play the T20 World Cup, but I try to focus on my game and will wait for my time," Jaiswal said on Agenda AajTak.
I would like to lead India: Yashasvi Jaiswal
Yashasvi, among the most talented youngsters in world cricket, revealed that he aspires to lead the Men in Blue in the future.
"Yes, if I get a chance, I would like to lead India," Yashasvi, who currently plays for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, said.
Currently, India are led by Shubman Gill in ODIs and Tests. Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav captains the Asian giants in the T20 format.
During the recently-concluded ODI series between India and South Africa, Yashasvi played all three matches. He got the opportunity after Shubman missed the series due to the neck injury he sustained during the preceding Test series. Yashasvi aggregated just 40 runs in the first two ODIs.
However, in the third match in Visakhapatnam, he showed his class, smashing an unbeaten 116 off 121 balls, hitting 12 fours and two sixes. His knock helped the hosts chase down a 271-run target in just 39.5 overs and clinch the series 2-1.
