Sunrisers Hyderabad host the Kolkata Knight Riders in match No. 45 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday, May 3.
The Orange Army must be on a high after winning five games in a row. The return of Pat Cummins has only made the team stronger. Sunrisers Hyderabad have been known for their formidable batting department over the years. Ahead of the business end of the tournament, the big guns have started firing on all cylinders.
Meanwhile, the
Knight Riders had an abysmal start to the season. They lost five out of their first six matches in IPL 2026. Ajinkya Rahane and Co. have won their last two matches, but there is very little room for error left. The Knights have a good record against Sunrisers and would want to avenge the 65-run defeat they suffered against them earlier this season.
Here is Kolkata Knight Riders’ strongest predicted XI vs Sunrisers Hyderabad:
Top-order: Ajinkya Rahane (C), Sunil Narine, Angkrish Raghuvanshi (WK)
Skipper Ajinkya Rahane has to lead from the front on Sunday. Time is running out for him after a string of low scores. Sunil Narine might be promoted to open the batting once again. Tim Seifert hasn't been able to cement his place in the side, and he could make way for Matheesha Pathirana. Narine has also been brilliant with the ball and is averaging just 6.67. Angkrish Raghuvanshi could don the wicketkeeping gloves yet again. He started the season with consecutive half-centuries, but in recent matches, he has struggled big time.
Middle-order: Cameron Green, Rovman Powell, Rinku Singh, Anukul Roy, Ramandeep Singh
Cameron Green has looked in sublime touch in recent matches after an underwhelming start at his new franchise. In eight innings, he is averaging 28 and striking at 153.13. With the ball, he has been expensive but picked up two important wickets. Rovman Powell has fared decently with the bat, and his presence on the field, especially on the boundary during the death overs, is imposing. He has taken some fine catches and stopped quite a few runs with his athleticism.
Rinku Singh also had a poor start to the season, but he has hit his straps in the last two games. The southpaw is coming into this game on the back of two half-centuries in a row. Anukul Roy played a fine hand in KKR's win against Rajasthan Royals. However, he hasn't contributed with the bat in the other matches. With the ball, however, he has picked up five wickets at an average of 28. Ramandeep Singh might get another chance to regain form because KKR didn't lose the last game. However, the Punjab all-rounder needs to come out all guns blazing.
Bowlers: Vaibhav Arora, Kartik Tyagi, Varun Chakaravarthy, Matheesha Pathiranana (IMP)
Vaibhav Arora's performances have been a bit up and down this season. However, in the last game against Lucknow, he bowled four overs, giving away just 24 runs and picking up two wickets. This would have done a world of good to his confidence. Kartik Tyagi has been the best pacer on show for the Knights in IPL 2026. He has bowled at a serious pace, picking up nine wickets in seven innings at an economy rate of 9.63. Varun Chakaravarthy has returned to form after an indifferent start to the season. He has picked up seven wickets in six matches at an economy rate of 8.86. Matheesha Pathirana would be raring to go after recovering from the injury he sustained during the 2026 T20 World Cup. The Sri Lankan pacer's expertise in the death overs will come in handy for the three-time champions.
KKR's predicted playing XI for match 45, IPL 2026
Ajinkya Rahane (C), Sunil Narine, Angkrish Raghuvanshi (WK), Cameron Green, Rovman Powell, Rinku Singh, Anukul Roy, Ramandeep Singh, Vaibhav Arora, Kartik Tyagi, Varun Chakaravarthy
Impact Player: Matheesha Pathirana
