Young left-handed batter Sai Sudharsan expressed his hope of contributing more to the team following India’s 2–0 series win over the West Indies on October 14, 2025, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. The hosts completed a convincing whitewash in the two-match assignment.
Sudharsan admitted that he had learned a lot during the five-game England series, where he provided some crucial resistance. In the second encounter against the Caribbean side, the southpaw scored 87 in the first innings and 39
in the second, as India chased down a modest 121-run target. He also made a notable contribution in the field with a terrific catch at forward short leg, which injured his thumb.
“It feels really great to be honest. After a good series where we gave them a fight (in England), coming back to India and winning the series is special. I've learned a lot in these five games and I'm looking forward to improving on that, and obviously giving a bit more for the team. I was very clear that he would not sweep (on the catch to dismiss John Campbell in the 1st innings), the wicket was low and I knew he'll not play the sweep shot, so I was very brave enough to hold my position,” said Sudharsan on air after the match.
Sudharsan stated that batting at No. 3 helped him understand and embrace his responsibilities. He also praised Indian captain Shubman Gill for his leadership, saying that Gill motivates the team in a big way.
“I was very lucky there. Understanding the role, understanding what a number 3 must do, learning to take responsibility and bat in a risk-free manner (on his learnings going forward). To be honest, I've played a lot with Shubie (Shubman). The way he captains, and the way he, you know, gives beliefs to the players, I think it's really great. Looking forward to having a lot more opportunities,” he added.
India will next play red-ball cricket against South Africa in a three-match series, beginning on November 14 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. However, they will be travelling to Australia for a white-ball series before that, as the era of Shubman Gill's ODI captaincy is all set to commence, as the management has decided to move on from Rohit Sharma.
