3. Daryl Mitchell

Daryl Mitchell enters this ODI series carrying exceptional form against India. In the recently concluded T20I leg of this tour, he accumulated 176 runs at a strike rate of 174.26, underlining his comfort against Indian bowling across formats. His ODI record against India across 11 innings reads 741 runs at an average of 74.10 and a strike rate of 97.11, figures that place him among the most reliable performers in this rivalry. In 2026 overall, Mitchell has averaged close to 95 in ODIs at a strike rate nearing 98 across six matches. He was also named Player of the Series when New Zealand defeated India 2-1 in the ODI series held in India in January 2026, confirming his status as the Black Caps' most dangerous batter in this rivalry.

2. Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill is the leading ODI run-scorer in 2026, having gathered 895 runs from 12 ODIs at an average of 111.87 and a strike rate of 118.70. He also captains India for the first three matches of this series. His most striking performance of the year came in Guwahati, where he struck an unbeaten 223 to help India chase down 406 against the West Indies in September 2026. New Zealand holds special significance for Gill, as it is where he made his international debut.

1. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma arrive in New Zealand with strong 2026 ODI records and the added weight of what could be their final international appearances in this country. Kohli has scored 552 runs from nine innings in 2026 at an average of 69.00 and a strike rate of 117.94, including two centuries and three fifties. Rohit, meanwhile, has accumulated 604 runs from 12 ODIs in 2026 at an average of 50.33 and a strike rate of 104.67, also with two centuries and two fifties. Both players bring considerable experience to conditions in New Zealand, and their performances across this five-match series are likely to shape India's fortunes significantly.
