Brief Scores
New York Lions CC 79/5 in 10 overs (Rehman Dar 28, Adam Rossington 27; Rahul Sharma 2/15, Naseer Jamali 1/9) won against Chicago CC 68/6 in 10 overs (Rajdeep Darbar 34, Wahab Riaz 9; Vatsal Vaghela 2/7, Saad Humayun 2/13) by 11 runs.
New York Lions CC registered an 11-run win in a low-scoring encounter against defending champions Chicago at the University of Texas Dallas on Sunday, October 5.
Chicago skipper Rajdeep Darbar won the toss and opted to field first. Dilshan Munaweera took the new
ball and picked up the wicket of Emilio Gay off the fifth ball of the match. Adam Rossington and New York skipper Rehman Dar took the attack to the Chicago bowlers and forged a quickfire 54-run partnership off 33 balls.
While the platform was set for a grand finish from New York, all they managed was just 17 runs off the last 22 balls. The Lions finished on 79/5 in their 10 overs. Rahul Sharma was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures of 2/15 in two overs.
In reply, Darbar played a captain's knock, scoring 34 off just 21 balls, hitting four fours and one six. However, four out of the top five batters departed for single-digit scores. Arjun Mahesh and Skanda Sharma had the responsibility of scoring 16 runs in the final over, with four wickets in hand.
However, Junaid Siddiqui bowled a fantastic last over, giving away just four runs. New York won the match by 11 runs to take two vital points from the encounter. Saad Humayun and Vatsal Vaghela bagged two wickets apiece. Behera and Jack Taylor also contributed by picking up one wicket each.
Till Rajdeep was there at the crease, Chicago were in the hunt. However, he was dismissed in the sixth over by Vaghela, and this turned out to be the turning point in the contest. The pitch wasn't easy for the new batters to come in and explode from the first ball. Chicago also let themselves down with poor rotation of strike.
