Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) returned to the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium to secure a win over the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by five wickets in Match 23 of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL).
The visitors were put into bat by RCB captain Rajat Patidar and struggled to get going in the first innings. Their overseas pair of Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran were dismissed within the first seven overs. Captain Rishabh Pant left the field, retired hurt, only to return to score one
run. LSG were restricted to just 146, thanks to Rasikh Dar’s four-wicket haul and Bhuvneshwar Kumar taking three scalps. The highlight of the innings was the two outstanding catches taken by Tim David and Phil Salt.
In reply, RCB chased down the total with relative ease despite losing two wickets in one over towards the end. Virat Kohli top-scored in the run chase with 49. There were other healthy contributions for the Bengaluru side, including skipper Patidar scoring 27 off 13 balls and Jitesh Sharma hitting 23 from just nine balls. David and Romario Shepherd finished things off in the end, chasing the target with 29 balls to spare.
It has become extremely common for each IPL game to see both teams and players achieve major milestones, and RCB vs LSGwas no different. The Bengaluru-based side dominated the milestones in the game. However, not all achievements are positive in nature, with LSG being on the wrong side of an unwanted record.
Here are the most important stats and milestones from Match 23:
- RCB: First victory against LSG at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium
- Krunal Pandya: Reached 100 wickets in the IPL
- Virat Kohli: Dismissed for 49 for the first time in IPL history
- Josh Hazlewood: 1-20 being the most economical spell for RCB this season
- Rasikh Dar: 4-24 figures are the fourth-best figures by uncapped Indians for RCB
