"If Yashasvi and Shubman open in ODIs, you might not even miss Rohit" - Former India batter's massive statement ahead of Australia tour

Yashasvi Jaiswal has cemented his place in India's Test squad. In the ongoing second Test between India and the West Indies, the Mumbai batter slammed a brilliant 175 off 258 balls, hitting 22 boundaries. However, the southpaw hasn't been given too many opportunities to showcase his skills in white-ball cricket. While Yashasvi has played 26 Tests, he has only featured in one ODI and 23 T20Is for the Men in Blue.

Former India opener Aakash Chopra, however, believes that it is only a matter of time

before Yashasvi becomes a regular in all three formats for India. The cricketer-turned-expert also mentioned that fans might stop missing Rohit Sharma once Yashasvi starts opening in ODI cricket with skipper Shubman Gill.

"I think it's only a matter of time. You will find Yashasvi Jaiswal being blooded in all formats one by one. He has already played T20Is, and he scored a hundred as well. He plays very well in the IPL. He was part of the T20 World Cup team as well. After that, Shubman Gill went ahead of him in the race from the leadership perspective," Chopra said in a video on his YouTube channel.

"Shubman became a part of the Asia Cup team. Yashasvi is still not there. He will break into the team. You won't be able to keep him far for long, although an interesting discussion has started about whether you want to play Abhishek Sharma in ODIs. I feel Yashasvi might get a chance before him, and should as well. If Yashasvi and Shubman Gill open in ODIs, you might not even miss Rohit then," he added.

Rohit was recently removed from ODI captaincy, fanning the flames of speculation about his future in international cricket. The 38-year-old has retired from Tests and T20Is and will only represent India in 50-over cricket. Both Rohit and Yashasvi have been named in India's squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia, starting on October 19.

I feel his best IPL season has not come yet: Aakash Chopra

Chopra feels that Yashasvi's best season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) hasn't come yet. However, the former cricketer is confident that the Rajasthan Royals opener will soon have a season where he aggregates 750-plus runs in the cash-rich league.

"In T20 cricket, I feel his best IPL season has not come yet. A 750 to 800-run IPL season will definitely come for him because he is that kind of player. He has the hunger and stroke making is par excellence. The combination of the two is magical," he said.

Chopra also opined that Yashasvi could push Shubman down to No. 3 after the 2026 T20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

"Whenever you give Yashasvi a chance, he will grab it, and when he grabs it, then you won't miss others. Shubman Gill might go to No. 3 in T20 cricket and Yashasvi might open. By the World Cup, I feel he will become a part of the team, and might be seen playing in the XI after the World Cup," Chopra observed.
