New Zealand have added Blair Tickner to their ODI squad for the ongoing series against England after Kyle Jamieson was ruled out with a side strain. The 32-year-old pacer, who has 13 ODI caps, last represented
New Zealand in 2023. He recently took 1 for 55 in Central Districts’ victory over Wellington in the Ford Trophy on Saturday.
Tickner will join the Black Caps squad in Hamilton ahead of the second match of the three-game series. The hosts currently lead 1–0 following a four-wicket win in Mount Maunganui. Despite Harry Brook’s counterattacking century, 135 off 101 balls, rescuing England from 56 for 6, New Zealand successfully chased down 224 with relative ease, thanks to an unbeaten 74 from Daryl Mitchell.
"Blair's an experienced campaigner and no stranger to international cricket. He bowls a heavy ball from a decent height with plenty of energy and aggression. In that respect he can fill a similar role to what Kyle would normally perform,” said head coach, Rob Walter as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
"It was a good start to the series, and I thought the bowlers set the tone superbly. For Zak Foulkes to claim 4-41 in his first bowl in ODI cricket, including the big wickets of Ben Duckett, Joe Root and Jacob Bethell, showed the level of talent and composure he possesses,” he added.
England are currently touring New Zealand for a limited-overs series comprising three T20Is and three ODIs. The visitors won the T20I series 1–0, with two matches abandoned due to rain. The second ODI of the ongoing series is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, October 29, in Hamilton.
"It was encouraging to see the middle order then step up with the bat on a tricky wicket and I thought Daryl Mitchell and Michael Bracewell showed their experience to help guide us to the target. Seddon Park will bring new conditions and challenges, and we know England will be highly motivated to bounce back and level the series,” said Walter.
